Armstrong earns second player of the week honor
BAY CITY - The top two women's basketball scorers in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference shared player of the week honors Monday.
Lake Superior State senior Jaclyn Armstrong was named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week after averaging 20.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game as the Lakers lost 80-74 at Northwood last Thursday and won 53-51 at Wayne State last Saturday. It was Armstrong's second player of the week honor, while Hillsdale senior Katie Cezat was recognized in the South Division for the eighth time this season.
Cezat averages 27.9 points per game to lead the GLIAC in scoring (she is ranked second nationally), while Armstrong is second conference scoring at 17.3 ppg.
Armstrong grabbed a defensive rebound and made the game-winning basket with three seconds remaining in regulation at Wayne State. She led the Lakers in that game with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists. She has scored 20 or more points in 10 games this season.
Armstrong was 20-of-36 for 55.6 percent from the field last week.
Cezat totaled an amazing 37 points and 11 rebounds in an 88-64 victory over Ferris State, then had a 38 points and 23 rebounds in a 75-66 win over Grand Valley State. She set new GLIAC single-season records for points, rebounds and free-throw attempts.
