Sixth-ranked Chargers end Lakers' season
HILLSDALE - Sixth-ranked Hillsdale came back from a 12-point deficit during the last four minutes of regulation to beat the Lake Superior State women's basketball team 62-60 Tuesday during the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Chargers (25-3) out-scored the Lakers 15-2 down the stretch after trailing 59-47 with 4:01 remaining. Their scoring was spread out among four players. All-American Katie Cezat had four points during the run, but wasn't her usual one-woman show. Claire Aubrey, Brooke Knight and Chelsea Harrison were also factors.
Cezat finished the game with 17 points and 18 rebounds, while Harrison had 14 points and Aubrey 13.
Lake Superior State's defense held Hillsdale to a season-low 35.5 percent from the field. The Chargers were 4-of-18 from three-point range and made 14-of-21 free throws. They narrowly out-rebounded LSSU, 37-36.
Emily Joseph led LSSU (16-15) with 18 points, five rebounds and two steals. Jaclyn Armstrong, playing in her final collegiate game, totaled 14 points and eight rebounds. Allison Jaynes added 11 points. Nicole Marshall scored seven points. Alyssa VanderWal, also playing in her final contest, totaled six points and eight rebounds.
LSSU shot 53.2 percent from the field, including 15-of-24 (62.5 percent) in the second half. The Lakers were 4-of-8 from three-point range and 6-of-14 at the free-throw line.
