Blazejewski is named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week
BAY CITY - Lake Superior State junior forward Maria Blazejewski was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week in women's basketball after averaging 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game to lead LSSU to a 2-1 finish during last week's stretch of non-conference games.
The wins came against Alma and Michigan-Dearborn, and the lone loss was 70-67 at Wayne State. Blazejewski shot 75 percent from the free-throw line, 60 percent from three-point range and 51 percent from the field. She scored 20 or more points during all three contests and currently ranks fifth in the GLIAC in scoring at 18.4 points per game.
Blazejewski was named to the pre-season All-GLIAC First Team.
LSSU (3-2) continues non-conference play this weekend at Ashland, Ohio. The Lakers play St. Joseph's on Nov. 26 and Oakland City on Nov. 27.
Lake Erie senior center Stephanie Rogers was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. She averaged 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as Lake Erie opened with a 3-0 record for the first time in the program's 32-year history.
