Junior forward earns second player of the week honor
BAY CITY - Lake Superior State junior forward Maria Blazejewski earned her second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week honor after pouring in 25.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.0 blocks per game during last week's home victories over Ohio Dominican and Tiffin.
Blazejewski (Beulah, Mich.) scored a career-high tying 27 points to lead LSSU to a six-point victory over ODU. She also scored her 1,000th career point during the contest. She scored 23 points and totaled a career-high seven blocked shots as the Lakers beat Tiffin, 71-67. Seven blocked shots is the second-high single-game total in the GLIAC this season.
Blazejewski shot 60 percent from the field and 76.9 percent at the free-throw line. She averages 17.1 points per game overall and ranks fourth in the GLIAC in scoring at 16.4 ppg. She is fifth in the league in free-throw percentage at .857.
LSSU (7-12 overall, 3-9 GLIAC), which strung back-to-back wins together for the first time this season, plays at Ferris State on Feb. 2.
