Gubbins and Bouwens are tied for 12th after first round
KINCHELOE - Laker teammates Samantha Gubbins and Nicole Bouwens fired 85s Saturday to tie for 12th place during the first round of the first Lake Superior State Women's Golf Invitational.
Gubbins carded a 45-40--85, while Bouwens had a 44-41--85. Dayna Drewes is tied for 17th after recording a 44-42--86. Amanda Garcia (47-44--91) is 27th, and Meredith Cleary (54-53--107) is 36th.
The Lakers are fifth among seven teams with 347 points. Round 2 of the two-day event begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at The Oaks at Kincheloe.
Ferris State leads the team standings with 316. FSU's Bryce Hetchler shot a first-round low of 38-38--76.
LSSU's Louise Hunt played individually and shot a 57-55--112.
