Chaperon, Dunford receive All-GLIAC Honorable Mention

BAY CITY - Lake Superior State junior infielder Lorrie Chaperon and junior catcher Nichole Dunford received honorable mention on the 2009 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Team.
Chaperon (Howell, Mich.) had a hot bat during the last two weeks of the season, hitting .460 (17-of-37) during the Lakers' last 12 games. For the year, she batted a team-leading .319 overall and .359 against GLIAC opponents. She was tied for fifth in the GLIAC in doubles with 11.
Dunford (Chesterfield, Mich.) batted .293 overall and .299 in league competition. She led the Lakers in RBIs with 25 and home runs with three.
Saginaw Valley State outfielder Marsha Beaubien was named 2009 GLIAC Player of the Year, while Wayne State's Casey Hanes was named Pitcher of the Year. Ashland pitcher Emlyn Knerem received the Freshman of the Year Award. AU's Sheilah Gulas was voted Coach of the Year.
