Zandarski and Willette combine to shut out Lake Erie

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Lake Superior State pitchers Nicole Carstensen and Nikki Christensen combined to shut out Lake Erie 7-0 Sunday at the Rebel Spring Games. Edinboro beat the Lakers 10-0 in an evening contest.

Carstensen got out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning with a two-out strikeout, and third baseman Chevie Peralta-Everts left runners stranded in the second inning by turning a double play. Christensen took over in the third inning and allowed only three hits the rest of the way. Carstensen and Christensen combined to strike out nine batters.

Lacey Knoop was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Rachel Hall was 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Laker offense. Samantha Klinkner had a double, and Nichole Dunford and Peralta-Everts added one hit each.

Hall, Christensen, Helena Zandarski and Chelsea Maynard had one hit each against Edinboro. Zandarski was the losing pitcher in her season debut.

LSSU (3-3) plays a double-header at Rollins on Monday night.
