Lakers go eight innings with Northwood (Fla.)
ORLANDO, Fla. - Lake Superior State went to the international tie-breaker before falling 3-2 to Northwood (Fla.) and lost a 13-7 slugfest to Edinboro on Tuesday at the Rebel Spring Games.
Rachel Hall tripled and scored on a single by Lacey Knoop to give the Lakers (3-7) a 1-0 lead in the third inning against Northwood. NU tied it 1-1 in the sixth on an unearned run and won the game on two its and a fielder's choice play in the eighth.
Nikki Christensen pitched a four-hitter in taking the loss. She had one walk and two strikeouts. Knoop was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Amber Kern and Samantha Klinkner added two hits each.
Nicole Carstensen was 4-for-5, and Nichole Dunford and Helena Zandarski were 2-for-3 to lead the Lakers in their second game of the week against Edinboro. Hall, Knoop and Chevie Peralta-Everts had one hit each.
Pitcher Jillian Willette gave up 11 runs on 11 hits. She was relieved in the sixth by Christensen. Edinboro scored seven runs off three home runs.
LSSU plays Lewis at 9 a.m. and College of Sciences of Philadelphia at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
