Knoop homers, and Lakers have a big sixth inning to beat Quincy

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Lacey Knoop homered in the fourth inning, and Lake Superior State put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind and beat Quincy 6-3 Saturday at the Rebel Spring Games.

The Lakers (4-12) also lost 4-0 to Indianapolis during Saturday's softball action. They close out their 18-game spring break trip with games Sunday against Saint Rose and Upper Iowa.

Knoop's solo home run cut Quincy's lead to 3-2. LSSU lead-off batter Nicole Carstensen was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Nichole Dunford, tying the game 3-3 in the fifth inning. Dunford also sacrificed for an RBI in the first inning.

Freshman Samanatha Klinkner started the Lakers' sixth-inning game-winning rally with a one-out single. Chelsea Maynard and Carstensen reached first on a walk and hit by pitch, respectively. Rachel Hall knocked in the winning run with a single, and Dunford followed with single for two RBIs.

Nikki Christensen went the distance to earn the pitching win. She allowed one earned run on five hits, one walk, one hit by pitch and four strikeouts.

Knoop and Helena Zandarski had LSSU's hits in the Lakers' loss to Indianapolis. Laker pitcher Jillian Willette gave up only one earned run. She allowed 10 hits and one walk, and totaled three strikeouts.
