Softball team picks up two wins in Buckeye state
URBANA, Ohio - Lake Superior State out-hit opponents 18-11 to beat Urbana University 4-1 and Lake Erie College 8-4 Saturday.
Sophomore third baseman Chevie Peralta-Everts slammed a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Amber Kern was 2-for-2 to lead the Lakers (6-14) against Urbana (8-5). Nikki Christensen, Rachel Hall, Nichole Dunford and Helena Zandarski added one hit each.
In addition to the home run, LSSU scored two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Lorrie Chaperon and an RBI sacrifice fly by Kern.
Christensen went the distance for the win, allowing one earned run in the seventh inning. She gave up three hits, struck out four and walked two.
LSSU scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second to build an early 8-0 lead against Lake Erie. Hall was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Peralta-Everts was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Nicole Carstensen, who was also 2-for-4, had a double and a stolen base. Samantha Klinkner was 2-for-3, and Chaperon and Kern had one hit each.
Jillian Willette notched her second win of the season by scattering eight hits. She struck out four and had no walks. Three runs were earned.
The Lakers play a non-conference double-header against Grand Valley State on Sunday.
