Carstensen goes 4-for-7 during Lakers' twinbill at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE - Nicole Carstensen was 4-for-7 at the plate, and Lorrie Chaperon was 3-for-8 with a double to lead the Lake Superior State softball team, which lost 8-3 and 8-5 Saturday at Hillsdale.

Carstensen was 3-for-3 in the opener as the Chargers (12-23 overall, 6-15 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) out-hit the Lakers, 11-6. Chaperon was 2-for-4, and Nichole Dunford had a double.

LSSU pitchers Nikki Christensen and Jillian Willette combined to give up four earned runs. The Chargers broke open a 2-2 game with five runs in the fourth inning.

Lacey Knoop and Christensen had two hits each in the nightcap. Chaperon, Carstensen, Amber Kern and Chelsea Maynard added singles. Christensen and Willette again shared the mound duties and again gave up four earned runs on 10 hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Hillsdale scored six runs in the fourth inning to come back from a 3-2 deficit.

LSSU (6-35 overall, 0-18 GLIAC) wraps up its six-game road trip at noon Sunday at Findlay.
