Carstensen leads Laker attack at NU

MIDLAND - Northwood scored late-inning runs in both games of Wednesday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball double-header and won 6-5 and 9-1. Nicole Carstensen was 3-for-6 at the plate to lead Lake Superior State's attack.

NU (8-14 overall, 2-6 GLIAC) scored two runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to come back from a 4-2 deficit in the opener. Carstensen was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Lakers (6-23 overall, 0-6 GLIAC), who out-hit the Timberwolves, 8-7. Lacey Knoop, Lorrie Chaperon, Nichole Dunford, Amber Kern, Helena Zandarski and Nikki Christensen added one hit each.

Christensen went the distance is taking the pitching loss. She walked five and struck out six.

Chaperon had a double, and Knoop and Carstensen added singles in the nightcap. NU out-hit LSSU, 12-8, and scored a run in every inning except the fourth. LSSU pitcher Jillian Willette totaled two walks and two strikeouts.

LSSU plays a twinbill at Ferris State on Saturday.
