Cards extend win streak with two wins over LSSU
UNIVERSITY CENTER - Saginaw Valley State extended its softball win streak to 12 games by defeating Lake Superior State 16-3 and 8-2 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference double-header on Saturday.
LSSU's Nicole Dunford homered in both games.
The Lakers (6-21 overall, 0-4 GLIAC) play a GLIAC twinbill at Wayne State on Sunday. The Warriors received honorable mention in this week's NFCA Coaches Poll.
The Cardinals (17-5 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) scored eight runs in the seventh inning to pull away from an 8-3 lead in Game 1 against LSSU. Lorrie Chaperon, Dunford, Samantha Klinkner and Nicole Carstensen had hits for the Lakers, who were out-hit 20-4 for the game. Dunford hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
Dunford added a solo home run in the sixth inning of Game 2. Lacey Knoop, Chaperon, Klinkner and Rachel Hall had singles. SVSU out-hit LSSU, 11-5.
