Chaperon finishes weekend road trip with a hot bat

FINDLAY, Ohio - Second baseman Lorrie Chaperon was 6-for-7 with two triples and four doubles to lead the Lake Superior State softball team during Sunday's 5-3 and 10-8 losses at Findlay.

Chaperon was 3-for-4 with one RBI during Game 1, and 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the nightcap.

Findlay (18-17 overall, 5-15 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) scored one run in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to pull away from a 2-2 tie in the opener. The Oilers out-hit LSSU, 11-7.

Laker pitcher Nikki Christensen went the distance, totaling one walk and three strikeouts. She allowed four earned runs. Amber Kern was 2-for-3 with a double for LSSU, and Chelsea Maynard had a double. Nichole Dunford had a single.

Maynard was 2-for-3 and doubled twice during Game 2. Nicole Carstensen and Dunford were 2-for-4, and Chevie Peralta-Everts had one hit.

LSSU pitchers Jillian Willette and Christensen combined to give up 16 hits while totaling two walks and three strikeouts.

Lake Superior State (6-37 overall, 0-20 GLIAC) travels to Ferris State on Wednesday, followed by its only homestand of the season. The Lakers play host to Ashland on Saturday and Tiffin on Sunday at Kaunisto Field.
