Warriors claim back-to-back 5-0 decisions
DETROIT - Wayne State's Casey Hanes tossed a one-hitter and Nicole Abel pitched a three-hitter as the Warriors claimed back-to-back 5-0 softball victories over Lake Superior State on Friday.
Lorrie Chaperon had the only hit in Game 1 for LSSU (6-33 overall, 0-16 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). Hanes (21-4) totaled eight strikeouts and three walks for the Warriors (28-10 overall, 13-3 GLIAC).
Amber Kern was 2-for-3, and Helena Zandarski was 1-for-3 for the Lakers in Game 2. Abel (6-3) had four walks and three strikeouts in the shutout victory.
LSSU first-game pitcher Nikki Christensen allowed only one earned run on six hits, one walk and one strikeout. Laker Jillian Willette totaled two walks and one strikeout, and allowed 12 hits in the nightcap.
Lake Superior State plays at Hillsdale at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
