Chaperon and Carstensen earn All-GLIAC Honorable Mention

BAY CITY - Lake Superior State senior second baseman Lorrie Chaperon and junior center fielder Nicole Carstensen earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention in softball for the 2010 season.

Chaperon (Howell, Mich.) batted a team-leading .326 with 47 hits and 17 RBIs this season. In conference play, she batted .274. The transfer from Glenville State posted a three-year average of .304 while playing for LSSU. Her career batting average ranks fourth on LSSU's all-time list behind Kerri Kelly (.367), Karen Morgan (.365) and Jean Pergande (.321). She also batted .301 as a rookie at GSU.

Carstensen (Maple Grove, Minn.), who is a second-year transfer from North Dakota, was second on the team in overall batting a .322 with 47 hits and 16 RBIs. The former infielder had a fielding average of .964 after moving to the outfield. Against GLIAC competition she batted .299 with a team-leading 23 hits.

Wayne State outfielder Alison Allen was named GLIAC Player of the Year, while WSU's Casey Hanes was named pitcher of the year. Grand Valley State third baseman Katie Martin earned rookie of the year honors. Ashland's Sheilah Gulas was named coach of the year.
