Lakers sign three infielders and an outfielder

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State softball team signed infielders Amanda Maxon of Munising, Anya Malloch of Grand Ledge and Kailee Doorlag of Lawton, along with outfielder Haleigh Edgar of Tecumseh for the 2010-11 season.

Doorlag is a sophomore third baseman at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She is a 2008 graduate of Mattawan High School, where she earned three All-Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference honors. She made the Division I all-district team and was her team's most-valuable player as a senior.

Maxon, who has lettered in softball, basketball, tennis and track at Munising High School, is an impressive power hitter and has never hit less than .500 throughout her prep career. She hit seven home runs in 2009. Mason played four season with the EMP Engineers travel team.

Malloch, who can play infield and outfield, batted .475 with 10 doubles, five triples and one home run for Grand Ledge High School in 2009. She made the All-Capital Area Conference Team and earned Division I all-region honors as a junior. She has played every position except pitcher.

"Amanda has a good arm and the range to play shortstop, and can help behind the plate when needed," LSSU coach Don Myers said. "Anya throws right and can switch hit. Kailee hits high in the lineup for Kalamazoo Valley. When playing the corner, she can shut off the bunt with her hustle and determination."

Edgar batted .376 and stole 17 bases on 18 attempts for Tecumseh High School in 2009. She struck out only once and had a .950 fielding percentage in the outfield on her way to earning All-Southeastern Conference and Division 2 all-region honors. She posted a .972 fielding average and batted .431 in 55 games with the Wizards Elite travel team.

"She throws right and bats left," Myers said. "She is very fast and savvy on the base paths, and her speed will help in the outfield."
