Lakers end season with home loss to SVSU

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State concluded the 2011 softball season with a 14-4 home loss to Saginaw Valley State on Sunday at Locey Field. The single game was a make-up from a April 20 rainout.

SVSU pitcher Jade Fulton struck out eight LSSU batters during three innings of work and improved to 24-7. The Cardinals (35-14 overall, 22-8 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) out-hit LSSU 15-4 during their tune-up for next week's GLIAC Tournament.

Heather Cuthrell homered, and Felicia Gingrich doubled for LSSU (5-28 overall, 2-24 GLIAC). Nicole Carstensen and Lindsay Clemens singled. Christine Larkin pitched two innings and took the loss. She was relieved by Nikki Stein.
