Shimasaki adds four to her first recruiting class

SAULT STE. MARIE – Lake Superior State second-year softball head coach Lori Shimasaki’s first recruiting class includes two outfielders, a shortstop and a versatile pitcher.

Outfielder Alyssa Avila of Northridge, Calif., pitcher/catcher Ali Lince of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and shortstop Kirsten Thompson of Oxford, Mich., have signed National Letters of Intent to play softball at LSSU, while junior outfielder Karrie Jaynes of Bay City, Mich., is transferring from Delta Community College. They join utility player Brandi Anderson of Negaunee, Mich., who signed her NLI last fall.

Jaynes, a 2009 graduate of Auburn-Bay City Western, helped lead the Warriors to two Division 1 regional titles. While at Delta College, she made the vice-president’s list for academics. Delta was a combined 22-49 during her two collegiate seasons.

Avila earned several honors while playing for Granada Hills High School, including 2010 All-West Valley CIF City Section First Team, and 2011 All-West Valley CIF City Section Honorable Mention and all-city all-academic.

“Alyssa has chosen LSSU as her top school to showcase her talents and help take our team to the next level,” Shimasaki said. “I anticipate her being an impact player this year and look forward to seeing her grow as a student-athlete.”

Lince, a 2011 graduate of St. Clair Shores-Lakeview, is a four-time All-Macomb Area Conference First Team pick at three different positions – catcher (twice), outfielder and pitcher. She his a two-time Division 2 all-region selection and four-time MHSSCA academic all-state selection. Lince was named the MAC White most-valuable player and Lakeview’s female athlete of the year this spring. She helped lead the Huskies to three district titles.

Thompson earned All-Metro Conference First Team and All-Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association Division 4 All-State honors for Rochester Hills-Lutheran Northwest High School in 2011. She was also named the Crusader Athlete of the Year. She was also an all-state shortstop in 2010.
