UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.- Lake Superior State Softball dropped
both games in a doubleheader this evening against Saginaw Valley
State (24-6, 16-3 GLIAC). The Lakers (6-21, 5-16 GLIAC) had a
trouble getting anything going against the top team in the Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
After falling to the home team Cardinals by a score of 14-3 in
five innings, the Lakers followed up with another 16-2 loss.
SVSU jumped out to an eight run first inning during the first
game, handing Alyssa Boucher (2-3) the loss while only going 2/3
innings and giving up all eight runs in the frame. Boucher was
relieved by Jade Stein (0-3) and Felicia Gingrich (0-6). Senior Heather Cuthrell went 2-for-3 while scoring a run and
Haleigh Edgar went 1-for-2 with an RBI double.
In game two the Lakers were faced with a similar fate as the
Cardinals scored quickly and often. The bright spot for the Lakers
came in the fourth inning when Danielle Reveley ripped a singled to center scoring Carly Banchiu and Amanda Maxon. Brandi Anderson (4-9) got the game two starting nod but
lasted just 1 1/3 innings surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on
eight hits. Gingrich came on in relief once again allowing seven
runs over 4 2/3 innings. The Lakers were only able to muster two
hits in the series finale, however they were patient behind the
plate as they picked up eight base-on-balls.
