Warriors break away after five scoreless innings, sweep twinbill

DETROIT - Lake Superior State fended off Wayne State for five
scoreless innings, but the Warriors scored twice in the sixth
inning of the opener to win 2-0. They continued on to a 12-5 win in
the nightcap of Saturday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference softball double-header.
WSU (35-9 overall, 15-5 GLIAC) out-hit LSSU 10-3 during the
first game and strung together three hits for its game-winning
rally. Laker pitcher Brandi Anderson had one strikeout and no walks
while going the distance. Amanda Maxon, Allison Traczyk and Kirsten
Thompson had LSSU's hits.
Lake Superior State (6-24 overall, 5-19 GLIAC) led 4-2 after the
first inning of the second game. Wayne State responded by scoring
four runs in the top of the third inning and four more in the
fourth. The Warriors out-hit LSSU 16-5 during Game 2.
Haleigh Edgar and Traczyk had two hits each for the Lakers.
Carly Banchiu added a single. Traczyk smacked a three-run homer in
the first inning and a solo home run in the fourth.
Anderson suffered the pitching loss after relieving starter
Alyssa Boucher in the second inning. Anderson pitched 2 2/3
innings, and Jade Stein tossed the final three innings.
LSSU concludes its season Sunday with a double-header at
