Lakers and Warriors split singles, but WSU takes doubles for 5-4 team victory

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State and Wayne State tie 3-3 in singles during Friday's women's tennis match, but the Warriors won two of three three-set contests to pull out a 5-4 team victory.
Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles all went to a third set, and Adrienne DiVito was LSSU's lone winner, claiming a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Lakers Gaby Juan-Alladio and Carolyn Pumford won in straight sets at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.
The match was tied, 4-4, as No. 6 singles players Erin Wiethoff of LSSU and Jennifer Brandford of WSU were the last to finish their match. Bradford pulled out a 7-6, 6-4 win and secured the Warriors' team victory.
WSU won two of three doubles matches. LSSU's Ingrid Pflieger and Erin Wiethoff won at No. 3 doubles, 8-3, and improved to 3-0 for the season.
LSSU (1-5 overall, 0-5 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) plays host to Findlay at noon Saturday. WSU improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC.
