LSSU finishes 2-1 in women's tennis over the weekend
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis team defeated Findlay, 8-1, Sunday at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center. The Lakers finished their three-match weekend with a 2-1 record and are now 5-5 overall and 3-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
"We finished out a solid weekend to help give us a lift with only three matches before the GLIAC," said coach Tom Linhart.
At No. 1 singles, Adrienne DiVito (Washington, Mich.) defeated Findlay, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. DiVito and partner Katie Watchorn (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. LSSU's Erin Wiethoff (Escanaba, Mich.) and Helen Sheridan (Mattawan, Mich.) won No. 2 doubles, 8-4, and at No. 3 doubles, Kaitlynn Hutchinson (Cadillac, Mich.) and Tess Marton (Toronto, Ont.) were victorious, 8-1.
Sheridan at No. 4 singles, Wiethoff at No. 5, and Hutchinson at No. 6 singles defeated Findlay, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Marton won, 7-5, 6-3.
"We played a focused match and gave very little away, which is always a
tough combination," said Linhart.
LSSU will be at Northwood on Oct. 8 and at Saginaw Valley Oct. 9.
