LSSU women's tennis sweeps first road matches
SPRING ARBOR, MICH. – Lake Superior State women’s tennis team opened its season Thursday with a 9-0 victory over Spring Arbor. The Lakers continued their success with a 6-3 win at Davenport on Friday.
Junior Erin Wiethoff (Escanaba, Mich.), playing Nos. 4 and 5 singles, and freshman Kaitlynn Hutchinson (Cadillac, Mich.), at No. 6 singles, swept their singles and doubles competition against Spring Arbor and Davenport.
Wiethoff, No. 4 singles, defeated Spring Arbor 6-4, 6-1, and at No. 5 singles beat Davenport, 6-2, 6-2. Hutchinson defeated Spring Arbor and Davenport 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles competition Wiethoff and Hutchinson were a victorious pair at No. 3, winning 8-3 against Spring Arbor and 8-5 against Davenport.
Junior Adrienne DiVito (Washington, Mich.) won both No. 1 singles matches. She defeated Spring Arbor 6-3, 6-2 and Davenport 7-5, 6-4.
The Lakers will head to Ohio to face their first Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition Sept. 10 at Lake Erie.
