Lakers are 2-0 during tournament play
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State women’s tennis team opened its season with an 8-1 victory over Hillsdale and a 6-3 win over Davenport during the LSSU Labor Day Tournament in the Arbuckle Student Activity Center.
LSSU freshmen Erin Anderson-Scott (Hamilton, New Zealand) and Meagan Grey (Munising, Mich.) made their collegiate debut. Anderson-Scott defeated Hillsdale at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Grey won, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6 singles. Hillsdale is competing in women's tennis for the first time in school history.
The Laker rookies were 2-0 in singles for the day. Grey won at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-2, and Anderson-Scott won at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomores Holly Daniel (Zeeland, Mich.) and Tess Marton (Toronto, Ont.) also went undefeated during singles play against Hillsdale and Davenport.
LSSU has Saturday off and will return to the court Sunday at 1 p.m. to take on Roberts Wesleyan.
