Lakers slide past Saginaw Valley
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State finished its weekend homestand with a 5-4 victory over Saginaw Valley Saturday at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center. The Lakers are 11-5 overall and 6-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Lakers took five out of six singles sets against Saginaw for the victory. Lake Superior's underclassmen led them to victory. Sophomores Tess Marton (Toronto, Ont.), Holly Daniel (Zeeland, Mich.) and Kaitlynn Hutchinson (Cadillac, Mich.) were victorious, while freshmen Erin Anderson-Scott (Hamilton, New Zealand) and Meagan Grey (Munising, Mich.) also won.
At No. 2 singles, Anderson-Scott won 6-3, 6-4, followed by a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles for Marton. Hutchinson won 6-2, 6-2 over the Cardinals at No. 4 singles. Daniel at No. 5 singles was victorious, 6-2, 6-0, and Grey at No. 6 singles won, 7-5, 6-1.
The Lakers will play host to U.P. rival Michigan Tech Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. in the Student Activity Center.
