LSSU women's tennis team signs two players

Nov. 29, 2007

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State tennis coach Charlie Drury has announced that Adrienne DiVito of Bishop Foley High School and Erin Wiethoff of Escanaba High School have signed a National Letter of Intent.

DiVito, of Washington, Mich., is a three-time Division 4 all-state player and state tournament qualifier. She is a two-time Catholic League champion at No. 1 singles and has made one appearance in the state semifinals. She has competed in the USTA juniors circuit since she was 10 years old. DiVito will play her final prep season this spring.

Wiethoff just finished her prep career at Escanaba, posting a 24-3 record at No. 1 singles and finishing second in the Upper Peninsula State Finals this fall. Over the past four seasons, she has two U.P. state runner-up finishes, a 74-9 career record and one state title. She was named U.P. Player of the Year in 2005 after winning the U.P. championship as a sophomore. She was named to the Michigan High School Coaches Association All-State Team in 2005 and '07. Wiethoff also represents the Northern Michigan Tennis Association and has competed in the Junior Wightman Cup in Indiana the last three summers.

"Both players have a real passion for the game, and I'm happy to get both girls," Drury said. "They will give us some much-needed depth. I can see both girls contributing in the middle of the lineup somewhere. Erin hits the ball with real good pace. Her style of play is real good for the college game. For Adrienne, she has a very good serve and strong all-court game. They both have great attitudes."
