20 LSSU fall sports athletes earn GLIAC All-Academic honors
BAY CITY - Twenty Lake Superior State University fall sport athletes made the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic team.
At total of 13 men's and women's cross country runners received the honors. The top-ranked students on the women's cross country team were senior Emily Bowen (Osceola, Mich.), with a 3.893 GPA in nursing, juniors Sarah Christilaw (Midland, Mich.), with a 3.759 GPA in nursing, Kayla Nowak (Alpena, Mich.), with a 3.840 GPA in athletic training, and Sara Rewa (Holland, Mich.), with a 3.789 GPA in exercise science. Other women's cross country runners to receive honors were juniors Chelsea Kreft (Rogers City, Mich.), Heather Millard (Plainwell, Mich.), and senior Alyse Smith (Clayton, Mich.).
Junior Sean O'Mara (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), with 3.545 GPA in biology, was the top male student from the cross country team. Senior Jake Hoover (Capac, Mich.), juniors Alexander Gustafson (Rapid River, Mich.) and Lucas Pease (Bellevue, Mich.), and sophomores Michael McPherson (Ironwood, Mich.) and Mackenzie Oglesby (Schodack Landing, N.Y) made the all-academic team.
Sophomore Laura Misiak (Marshall, Mich.), with a 4.0 GPA in nursing, was the top student from the Laker volleyball team. Junior Samantha Gibbs (Midland, Mich.), and seniors Jessica Ewer (Amherstburg, Ont.) and Sara Hess (Owosso, Mich.) received honors along with sophomores Janelle Balkwill (Woodslee, Ont.), Jeanna Radzinski (Sterling Heights, Mich.), and Brandiss Ward (Owosso, Mich.).
