Hess paces Lakers' attack during Day 2 at NMU
MARQUETTE - Senior Sara Hess compiled 10 kills against St. Cloud State and added seven more against Winona State to lead the Lake Superior State volleyball team's attack during the second day of competition at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northern Michigan.
LSSU (0-4) lost both matches on Saturday, falling 25-19, 25-12, 25-18 to St. Cloud State and losing 25-14, 25-19, 26-24 to Winona State.
Samantha Gibbs added seven kills, and Janelle Balkwill had 23 assists against St. Cloud State. Brittany Newberry totaled 22 digs.
Nikki Stratelak matched Hess with seven in kills against Winona State. Lindsay McLeod and Abby Shereda added four each. Hess also contributed two solo blocks and three block assists. Balkwill again had 23 assists, while Newberry totaled 19 digs.
For the tournament, Hess led the Lakers in kills with 25, followed by Stratelak with 21 and Gibbs with 19.
The Lakers compete at the Findlay Tournament Sept. 4-5.
