Lakers conclude home slate

SAULT STE. MARIE - Seniors Sara Hess and Jessica Ewer combined for 16 kills and a .257 attack percentage during their final volleyball performance in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Lake Superior State lost 25-27, 25-27, 25-23 Saturday during the final home match of 2009. The Lakers (3-23 overall, 2-13 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) wrap up the season Nov. 6 at Saginaw Valley State.

Janell Balkwill totaled 17 assists and Brandiss Ward had 11 for LSSU. Brittany Newberry finished with 17 digs, followed by Ewer with 11 and Balkwill with seven.

Arielle Goodson totaled 12 kills and a .417 attack percentage to lead Ferris State (18-9 overall, 9-5 GLIAC). Kristy Gilchrist had nine kills and a .471 attack percentage.
