Warriors rely on blocking to overtake Lakers

SAULT STE. MARIE - Wayne State totaled 12 team blocks to Lake Superior State's three to dominate Friday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match. The Warriors defeated the Lakers, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16.

Samantha Gibbs had seven kills and a .333 attack percentage to lead the Lakers (1-7 GLIAC, 1-15 overall). Sara Hess and Jessica Ewer added six kills, and Abby Shereda had five.

LSSU setter Janelle Balkwill totaled 30 assists, and libero Brittany Newberry had 16 digs.

Candis Jenich had 12 kills, and Kate Sak totaled two block solos and six block assists to lead Wayne State (6-2 GLIAC, 14-2 overall).

The Lakers play host to Northwood at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
