Lakers' final home match is a tight one against No. 17 NMU
SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State volleyball team closed out the home portion of its schedule with a tight three-set loss to 17th-ranked Northern Michigan Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
NMU (20-3 overall, 14-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) defeated LSSU, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23. The Lakers are 6-17 overall and 2-14 in the GLIAC heading into their final road games at Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State on Nov. 5-7.
Jeanna Radzinski totaled nine kills and two blocks, and Emily Snyder added six kills to lead LSSU. Janelle Balkwill finished with 22 assists, and libero Brittany Newberry had 19 digs. Abby Shereda had three solo blocks.
Ana Lopes and Kalli Herron totaled 10 kills each to lead the Wildcats.
It was the final collegiate home match for redshirt juniors Anna Neal and Brandiss Ward.
LSSU held the drawing for the 42-inch plasma TV and other prizes. Erickson's Appliance was a partial sponsor of the fund-raiser. The prize list is below:
