Volleyball team closes out season with loss at GVSU

ALLENDALE - Lake Superior State concluded the 2010 volleyball season with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-18 loss to 15th-ranked Grand Valley State on Sunday at GVSU.

Grand Valley State (21-5 overall, 17-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) will take a 15-match win streak into this weekend's GLIAC Tournament. LSSU finished the year 6-20 overall and 2-17 in the GLIAC.

Setter Janelle Balkwill and outside hitter Nikki Stratelak led LSSU with 10 kills each. They combined for a .400 attack percentage. Abby Shereda had nine kills, and Emily Snyder added seven.

Balkwill also totaled 27 assists, while libero Brittany Newberry had 24 digs.

Newberry currently leads the GLIAC in average digs per set at 5.76.
