Lakers go four sets with 13th-ranked Hillsdale

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State junior Abby Shereda tied her overall career high with 17 kills and set a new career high for kills in a four-set match as the Lakers played an extended match with 13th-ranked Hillsdale Sunday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

The Chargers (15-1 overall, 12-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) defeated LSSU, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 25-14.

Nikki Stratelak added eight kills, Emily Snyder seven, and Jeanna Radzinski and Janelle Balkwill six each as LSSU also established a new season high in team attack percentage at .232.

Balkwill also contributed 34 assists and two service aces, and libero Brittany Newberry totaled 24 digs.

Shereda led in blocks with one solo and three assists. Radzinski and Stratelak also had three assists each.

Caitlin Kopmeyer had 14 kills and Clara Leuthheuser added 11 for Hillsdale, which totaled 63 kills to LSSU's 47.

The Lakers (4-12 overall, 2-10 GLIAC) open play at the GLIAC vs. GLVC Crossover Tournament on Oct. 15 in Aurora, Ill.
