Warriors rebound after dropping first set

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State opened a three-match volleyball homestand with a 14-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 loss to Wayne State Friday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Emily Snyder totaled 12 kills and six digs to lead LSSU (4-10 overall, 2-8 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Abby Shereda added nine kills, eight digs and 2.5 blocks, and Nikki Stratelak had nine kills and 1.5 blocks. The Lakers totaled 49 kills to Wayne State's 48, but also committed four more attacking errors and had seven receiving errors in the tightly-played contests.

LSSU setter Janelle Balkwill totaled 38 assists, while libero Brittany Newberry had 23 digs.

Katarzyna Sak led WSU (9-6 overall, 7-4 GLIAC) with 13 kills, while Nicole Arends had 11 kills and 4.5 blocks.

The Lakers continue their Great Lake State Weekend homestand at 2 p.m. Saturday against Findlay.
