Lakers complete home-and-home with Northwood

MIDLAND - Lake Superior State and Northwood completed their back-to-back home-and-home volleyball showdown with the Timberwolves taking the second match, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, Friday at the Bennett Center.

Northwood (6-7 overall, 4-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) also beat LSSU (4-9 overall, 2-7 GLIAC) in three sets last Sunday in Sault Ste. Marie, but the Lakers played a much closer contest on the road.

Junior setter Janelle Balkwill totaled six kills, a .417 attack percentage and 17 assists to lead the Lakers. Emily Snyder, Abby Shereda and Nikki Stratelak added five kills each, and libero Brittany Newberry totaled 17 digs.

NU took advantage of nine service aces and 47 team kills.

LSSU begins a three-match Great Lake State Weekend homestand at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, against Wayne State.
