Lakers and Cardinals battle to fifth set
UNIVERSITY CENTER - Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley battled to a deciding fifth set during Saturday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match, and the Cardinals prevailed, 25-12, 23-25, 19-25, 25-11, 15-12.
Abby Shereda and Nikki Stratelak totaled 13 kills each for the Lakers (6-19 overall, 2-16 GLIAC), who had an up-and-down day with attack rates throughout the match. Stratelak hit at a steady clip of .306.
Jeanna Radzinski and Emily Snyder totaled six kills each, while libero Brittany Newberry totaled 32 digs. Freshman setter Kristin Kopicki played in four of five sets and totaled 31 assists.
Annie Buxton totaled 20 kills, and Sam Breault had 48 assists for SVSU (13-12 overall, 8-10 GLIAC).
The Lakers end their season Sunday with a 2 p.m. match at Grand Valley State.
