Lakers finish 1-2 at 2011 Crossover Tournament
AURORA, Ill. -- Lake Superior State finished 1-2 at the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference vs. Great Lakes Valley Conference Crossover Volleyball Tournament after losing to Rockhurst and William Jewell on Saturday at the Great Lakes Training Center.
Rockhurst (9-11) defeated LSSU, 25-13, 25-22, 25-22, and William Jewell (12-7) won, 25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 25-14.
Brittany Newberry and Nikki Stratelak totaled 11 kills each to lead the Lakers (6-13) against Rockhurst. Newberry also totaled 12 digs, followed by Jessica Murawski and Katie Fitzpatrick with 11 each. Marylou Drobish led in assists with 23.
Emily Snyder compiled 11 kills, and Newberry had 17 digs against William Jewell. Drobish totaled 16 assists.
For the day, setter Janelle Balkwill totaled 30 assists, 14.5 service points 13 kills, and had a .458 attack percentage. She had a .382 attack rate for the tournament.
LSSU returns home and plays host to Ashland at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21.
