Lakers finish 0-3 during GLIAC road swing
UNIVERSITY CENTER - Lake Superior State finished 0-3 during a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road stretch, dropping three-set matches to 18th-ranked Grand Valley State, Ferris State and Saginaw Valley State.
GVSU (5-3 overall, 2-2 GLIAC) defeated LSSU, 25-17, 26-24, 25-14 on Friday. Ferris State improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 decision on Saturday. SVSU (5-3 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) claimed a 26-24, 25-21, 25-19 decision on Sunday.
Senior Brittany Newberry led the Lakers in kills for the weekend with 23, while senior Jeanna Radzinski had 21 kills and team's best attack percentage of .259. Senior setter Janelle Balkwill averaged 5.22 assists per set, while junior Marylou Drobish followed at 3.22.
Sophomore libero Katie Fitzpatrick led the Lakers in digs with 36, averaging 4.0 digs per set, and contributed a team-high five aces. Newberry finished second in digs with 33, led in service points with 28. She also led in service reception with only three errors in 69 attempts (.957).
Senior Lindsay McLeod totaled five block assists.
The Lakers play host to Northern Michigan at 7 p.m. Friday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
