Lakers come back from 2-0 deficit to beat Aquinas
GRAND RAPIDS - Lake Superior State pulled together after dropping the first two sets during Saturday's non-conference volleyball match at Aquinas and won in five sets, 15-25, 23-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-5.
After three straight sets were decided by a two-point margin, LSSU (4-9) dominated the fifth set and evened its record in five-set matches at 1-1. The Lakers committed only two attack errors during Set 4 (.400 attack rate) and only one during Set 5 (.500 attack rate). They had a .192 attack percentage for the match.
Jeanna Radzinski totaled 14 kills and a .344 attack percentage to lead the Lakers. She also contributed three block assists. Emily Snyder added 13 kills, and Nikki Stratelak followed with eight. Billie McLeod also contributed three block assists.
Brittany Newberry totaled seven service aces and a team-leading 27 digs. Jessica Murawski followed with 14 digs, and Katie Fitzpatrick had 10. Janelle Balkwill finished with 28 assists, while Marylou Drobish had 21.
LSSU set team season highs for aces (13) and digs (74).
Chelsea Phillips totaled 21 kills for Aquinas (13-8).
The Lakers play at Hillsdale on Oct. 7.
