Lakers open Crossover Tournament with a three-set win
AURORA, Ill. - Lake Superior State opened the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference vs. Great Lakes Valley Conference Crossover Tournament Friday with a 3-0 victory over Kentucky-Wesleyan.
LSSU improved to 6-11 with the 25-15, 27-25, 25-23 win.
Brittany Newberry led the Lakers with 14 kills and a .417 attack percentage. She was perfect in service reception and had nine digs. Jeanna Radzinski added nine kills. Nikki Stratelak contributed six kills and four block assists, while Chloe Balanda added six kills, one solo block and three block assists.
Marylou Drobish totaled 21 assists, and Janelle Balkwill had 18. Katie Fitzpatrick led in digs with 10.
The Lakers held KWC (5-16) to 21 kills.
LSSU plays Rockhurst at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday.
