16 LSSU fall sport student-athletes earn GLIAC All-Academic recognition
BAY CITY – Eight Lake Superior State sport student-athletes received Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Awards, and eight more earned GLIAC Academic Excellence Awards during the Fall 2011 season.
All-academic awards go to sophomores, juniors and seniors with a grade point average of 3.00 to 3.49, while academic excellence awards are presented to student-athletes with GPSs between 3.50 and 4.00.
LSSU’s top student-athletes during the fall were sophomore Katie Fitzpatrick (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) of the volleyball team and senior Sean O’Mara (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) of the cross country team. Fitzpatrick, a biology major, has a 3.96 GPA. O’Mara, who is also a biology major, has a 3.75 GPA.
Senior volleyball players Janelle Balkwill (Woodslee, Ont.), Brittany Newberry (Iron Mountain, Mich.) and Jeanna Radzinski (Sterling Heights, Mich.) also earned academic excellence awards, along with juniors Sarah Schultz (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) and Taylor Heath (Hanover, Mich.), and junior Alex Feravich (Cedar Springs, Mich.) of the cross country team.
All-academic awards went to sophomore Chloe Balanda (Big Rapids, Mich.) of the volleyball team, sophomores Elizabeth Dachs (Waterford, Mich.), Kelsey Lewis (Berrien Center, Mich.), Cody Carena (Temperance, Mich.) and Rance Carpenter (Grand Rapids, Mich.), junior Jamie Wick (Pinckney, Mich.), and seniors Michael McPherson (Ironwood, Mich.) and Mackenzie Oglesby (Schodack Landing, N.Y.) of the cross country team.
