10th-ranked Chargers overpower Lakers

HILLSDALE - Tenth-ranked Hillsdale improved to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference following Friday's 25-19, 25-11, 26-24 victory over the Lake Superior State volleyball team.

Hillsdale overpowered LSSU (4-10 overall, 2-7 GLIAC) with its .370 attack percentage and six blocks, and took advantage of five Laker ball-handling errors. Ashlee Crowder led the Chargers with 12 kills and a .455 attack rate.

Sophomore middle hitter Chloe Balanda had a big night for LSSU, totaling a season-high eight kills and a .438 attack percentage. Nikki Stratelak followed with seven kills, and Emily Snyder and Janelle Balkwill had six each. Balkwill also totaled 16 assists, followed by Marylou Drobish with 15.

Balkwill and Brittany Newberry led the Lakers in digs with eight each.

LSSU plays Saturday at Wayne State.
