Eagles take down Lakers in four sets
SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State fended off an Ashland comeback and won Set 3, but the Eagles hung on to win a tightly-contested fourth set and beat LSSU 3-1 during Friday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match in Cooper Gymnasium.
Jeanna Radzinski, Lindsay McLeod and Nikki Stratelak totaled eight kills each to lead the Lakers (6-14 overall, 3-9 GLIAC). McLeod posted the highest attack percentage among the trio at .263 and compiled four block assists.
Janelle Balkwill totaled 20 assists, and Marylou Drobish had 14. Brittany Newberry led the Lakers in digs with 21, while Emily Snyder had 12 and Drobish added 10.
Kathy Fletcher of Ashland (10-9 overall, 8-4 GLIAC) was the match leader in kills with 16. Anesia Benton followed with 13.
The Lakers play host to Lake Erie at 2 p.m. Saturday. They will wear pink uniforms, sell t-shirts and pink ribbons, and raffle off three gift baskets, pink golf clubs and a pink jersey during Dig Pink.
