Lakers open homestand with three-set loss to GVSU

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State began a regular-season ending three-match homestand with a three-set loss to Grand Valley State on Friday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Sophomore Chloe Balanda totaled 10 kills to lead LSSU, which lost the match, 25-18, 25-9, 25-21. Senior Janelle Balkwill added seven kills and 15 assists for LSSU (5-12 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, 8-17 overall). Senior Brittany Newberry compiled 16 digs, while senior Jeanna Radzinski had three block assists. Junior Marylou Drobish added 12 assists.

Eno Umoh totaled nine kills on 12 attempts (.750) to lead Grand Valley State (11-7 GLIAC, 14-11 overall).

LSSU plays host to 12th-ranked Ferris State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
