Wildcats shut down Lakers
SAULT STE. MARIE - Northern Michigan shut down Lake Superior State's attack and won Friday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match, 25-8, 25-19, 25-12, at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
The Wildcats (5-5 overall, 4-2 GLIAC), who have won four of their last five matches, were led by Emma Wolfe with 14 kills and posted a team attack percentage of .354. They held LSSU to a negative attack rate.
Brittany Newberry totaled eight kills and two aces to lead the Lakers (2-8 overall, 1-5 GLIAC), who have dropped five straight decisions. Janelle Balkwill and Marylou Drobish had eight assists each, and Katie Fitzpatrick totaled 15 digs.
LSSU plays host to Michigan Tech at 2 p.m. Saturday.
