Lakers conclude volleyball season
SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State concluded the 2011 volleyball season with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-17 loss to Saginaw Valley State on Sunday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. It was the final appearance for LSSU seniors Janelle Balkwill, Jessica Murawski, Lindsay McLeod, Jeanna Radzinski and Brittany Newberry.
Sophomore Emily Snyder totaled 17 kills and had a .300 attack percentage to lead the Lakers (8-19 overall, 5-14 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). Balkwill totaled 22 assists, followed by junior Marylou Drobish with 10. Newberry led the Lakers in digs with 15, and Drobish and sophomore Katie Fitzpatrick had 10 each.
Becky Schroeder totaled 12 kills, and Annie Buxton added 11 to lead SVSU (17-9 overall, 15-4 GLIAC). Buxton also compiled five block assists.
