Lakers secure important road win at WSU

DETROIT - Lake Superior pulled off an important volleyball road win by beating Wayne State in five sets Saturday. The Lakers topped the Warriors, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 14-25, 15-11 and improved to 2-1 in five-set matches. It was their first five-set victory in league play.

Nikki Stratelak totaled 14 kills to lead LSSU (5-10 overall, 3-7 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). Emily Snyder followed with 10 kills as LSSU set a season high for team kills in a GLIAC match with 49. Janelle Balkwill totaled nine kills and 26 assists, while Marylou Drobish had 18 assists.

Brittany Newberry finished with 29 digs and three service aces. Snyder aded one block solo and two block assists. LSSU's nine team aces was also a season-high in a league match.

Kristen Bulkiewicz had 18 kills for Wayne State (6-10 overall, 5-6 GLIAC).

The Lakers play at Findlay on Sunday.
