Hess, Stroven hit double figures for Lakers

Oct. 25, 2007
SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State totaled 44 kills to Michigan Tech's 40, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Huskies in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Thursday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
MTU, which won the match, 30-26, 30-18, 31-29, took advantage of its higher attack percentage (fewer attacking errors) and blocking. The Huskies, who had an attack rate of .207, improved to 7-14 overall and 5-9 in the GLIAC.
LSSU, which was playing its final home match of the season, dropped to 7-19 overall and 2-12 in the GLIAC. The Lakers get another shot at the Huskies when they travel to Houghton on Nov. 2.
Sara Hess totaled 12 kills, and Brishia Stroven had 11 kills and five digs to lead the Lakers. Ali Jones added five kills and a team-high 10 digs, and Jamie Groos contributed five kills, nine digs and three blocks.
Erin McLain totaled 21 assists, and Ashley Purvis added 11.
The Lakers play at 2 p.m. Saturday at Saginaw Valley State.
